A and an: English Articles in Grammar for Class 4

We use ‘a’ or ‘an’ before singular countable nouns that refer to something in general.

We use ‘a’ before nouns beginning with consonant sounds.

●Hema is flying a kite. (consonant sound k)

●Ruhi is standing next to a bicycle. (consonant sound b)

●There is a zoo near my house. (consonant sound z)

We use ‘an’ before nouns beginning with vowel sounds.
