Jhinuk lives with her mother in Alipurduar. It is a pretty city surrounded by distant hills. Jhinuk’s father works in Kolkata. On some weekends, he comes to his home. During these visits, he tells her stories about Kolkata. Some of the stories amaze Jhinuk. Her father has told her of the Metro Rail in Kolkata. Jhinuk has been astonished to hear of trains that run underground. One weekend, Jhinuk was expecting her father to arrive.  But on Friday evening, her mother told her, “Your father may not come tomorrow. He is busy with some urgent work.” Jhinuk felt very sad. She was missing her father very much. She had her dinner silently and went to sleep. Then she had a strange dream!

Bengali Meaning

ঝিনুক তার মায়ের সাথে আলিপুরদুয়ারে থাকে। দূর পাহাড়ে ঘেরা একটি সুন্দর শহর। ঝিনুকের বাবা কলকাতায় চাকরি করেন। কোনো কোনো সপ্তাহান্তে সে তার বাড়িতে আসে। এই পরিদর্শনের সময়, তিনি তাকে কলকাতা সম্পর্কে গল্প বলেন। কিছু গল্প চমকে দেয় ঝিনুককে। তার বাবা তাকে কলকাতার মেট্রো রেলের কথা বলেছেন। মাটির নিচে চলাচলকারী ট্রেনের কথা শুনে ঝিনুক অবাক হয়েছেন। এক সপ্তাহান্তে ঝিনুক তার বাবা আসবে বলে আশা করছিল। কিন্তু শুক্রবার সন্ধ্যায় তার মা তাকে বলেন, “তোমার বাবা আগামীকাল নাও আসতে পারে। তিনি কোনো জরুরি কাজে ব্যস্ত।” ঝিনুক খুব খারাপ লাগলো। সে তার বাবাকে খুব মিস করছিল। সে নীরবে রাতের খাবার সেরে ঘুমাতে গেল। তারপর সে অদ্ভুত স্বপ্ন দেখল!

Ans:  I think the strange dream was about the beautiful fairy that came to Jhinuk in her dream and took Jhinuk to visit Kolkata, Eden Gardens, a river, underground trains, Esplanade Metro Station, and College Street with the help of a magic wand.

A beautiful fairy visited her in her dream. “I know you want to meet your father,” the fairy said. Jhinuk asked eagerly, “Will you take me to Kolkata, then?” The fairy smiled. She waved her glittering magic wand. And it was magic! In a moment Jhinuk found herself in a busy road. Around her she saw tall buildings, moving traffic and hurrying people. The loud blaring of horns startled her. “So this is Kolkata!” exclaimed Jhinuk. “I have heard so much about Kolkata from my father.” The beautiful fairy smiled. “You want to see more of this city?”

“Yes”, Jhinuk was excited. The fairy waved her magic wand again. At once, Jhinuk saw a river in front of her. Large ships were anchored in the river. A lot of activities were going on.”This is the Kolkata port”, the fairy said. “Kolkata is so very busy!” said Jhinuk. The beautiful fairy smiled warmly. “Let me take you to the Eden Gardens now”. Jhinuk saw before her a vast green field. Sourav Ganguly had played here, she remembered. “This is a place of hugely exciting cricket matches,” said the fairy.

একটি সুন্দর পরী তার স্বপ্নে তাকে দেখতে এসেছিল। “আমি জানি তুমি  তোমার  বাবার সাথে দেখা করতে চান,পরী বলল। ঝিনুক আগ্রহের সাথে জিজ্ঞেস করল, “তাহলে আমাকে কলকাতায় নিয়ে যাবে?” পরী হাসল। সে তার চকচকে জাদুর কাঠি নাড়ল। আর এটা জাদু! কিছুক্ষণের মধ্যে ঝিনুক নিজেকে একটা ব্যস্ত রাস্তায় খুঁজে পেল। সে দেখতে পেল উঁচু দালান, যানজট আর তাড়াহুড়ো করে মানুষ। হর্নের জোরে শব্দ তাকে চমকে দিল। “তাহলে এটাই কলকাতা!” ঝিনুক বলে উঠল। “কলকাতা সম্পর্কে আমি আমার বাবার কাছ থেকে অনেক কিছু শুনেছি।” সুন্দরী পরী হাসল।

“তুমি? এই শহরটি আরও দেখতে চান?” “হ্যাঁ”, ঝিনুক উত্তেজিত হয়ে উঠল। পরী আবার তার জাদুর কাঠি নাড়ালো। সাথে সাথে ঝিনুক তার সামনে একটি নদী দেখতে পেল। নদীতে বড় বড় জাহাজ নোঙর করা হয়েছে। অনেক কার্যক্রম ছিল। চলছে। “এটা কলকাতা বন্দর”, পরী বললো। “কলকাতা খুব ব্যস্ত!” বলল ঝিনুক। সুন্দরী পরী উষ্ণ হাসি হাসল। “চল আমি তোমাকে এখন ইডেন গার্ডেনে নিয়ে যাই।” ঝিনুক তার সামনে বিশাল বিশাল দেখতে পেল। সবুজ মাঠ। সৌরভ গাঙ্গুলী এখানে খেলেছিলেন, তার মনে আছে। “এটি অত্যন্ত উত্তেজনাপূর্ণ ক্রিকেট ম্যাচের জায়গা,” পরী বলল।

“Can you show me the underground trains?” Jhinuk asked. “Why not? Let us go right now”, the fairy answered. They entered the Esplanade Metro station. The moving stairs took them underground. The train came into the station and they got up. Jhinuk was thrilled. “Where will you take me next?” she asked breathlessly. “Where do you want to go?” the fairy asked her, with a smile. Jhinuk said, “I want to meet my father.” The fairy waved her magic wand again. Jhinuk saw a road lined with bookshops on either side.

“I have never seen so many bookshops together!” Jhinuk exclaimed. “This is College Street”, the fairy said. “People come here to buy old and new books.”Jhinuk suddenly spotted her father in a bookshop. She was delighted. She ran towards him. “Wake up Jhinuk, wake up”, said a familiar voice. Jhinuk wakes up from her dream. It is morning. Her father stands before her, smiling. So he could manage to come home, after all!

“তুমি আমাকে ভূগর্ভস্থ ট্রেন দেখাতে পারেন?” ঝিনুক জিজ্ঞেস করল। “কেন না? চল এখনই যাই”, পরী উত্তর দিল। তারা এসপ্ল্যানেড মেট্রো স্টেশনে প্রবেশ করল। চলন্ত সিঁড়ি তাদের মাটির নিচে নিয়ে গেছে। ট্রেন স্টেশনে এসে ওরা উঠে গেল। ঝিনুক শিহরিত হল। “আমাকে কোথায় নিয়ে যাবে?” সে এক নিঃশ্বাসে জিজ্ঞেস করল। “তুমি কোথায় যেতে চান?” পরী তাকে জিজ্ঞেস করল, হাসিমুখে। ঝিনুক বলল, আমি আমার বাবার সাথে দেখা করতে চাই। পরী আবার জাদুর কাঠি নাড়ল। ঝিনুক দেখল রাস্তার দুপাশে বইয়ের দোকান। “আমি এত বেশি দেখিনি বইয়ের দোকান একসাথে!” ঝিনুক চিৎকার করে বললো। “এটা কলেজ স্ট্রিট”, পরী বলল। “মানুষ এখানে পুরাতন এবং নতুন বই কিনতে আসে।” ঝিনুক হঠাৎ একটা বইয়ের দোকানে তার বাবাকে দেখতে পেল। সে আনন্দিত ছিল। সে তার দিকে ছুটে গেল। ‘ঝিনুক জাগো, জাগো’, পরিচিত কন্ঠস্বর বলল। ঝিনুক তার স্বপ্ন থেকে জেগে ওঠে। এখন সকাল. তার বাবা তার সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে হাসছেন। এত কিছুর পরেও সে বাড়িতে আসতে পেরেছে!
