Read the story aloud.
Anna is a little girl. She is four years old. Her fifth birthday will be on Saturday. Her mother wanted to have a birthday party for Anna.
Mother told Anna, ‘We will have a birthday party for you on Saturday. You can invite your friends.’
Anna was happy. ‘Oh, Mother! This is going to be fun. I will invite Linda, Manoj, Shyla, Terry and Rajini!’
Before long, it was Saturday. It was a bright, sunny day. Anna wore a new, pink frock. She looked beautiful. Anna’s mother arranged six cups, six plates, six spoons and a big birthday cake in the middle of the dining table.
Terry and Shyla arrived first and gave her a big gift. Anna opened it. It was a doll that could talk and walk. This is very pretty. Thank Terry and Shyla,’ she said.
Rajini came next with an art pack. It had crayons, markers and pencils. ‘These are very useful. Thank you Rajini, Anna said.
Then Anna, Rajini, Terry and Shyla played a game.
Look! That boy coming down the road is Manoj, said Terry.
‘Hurray! More friends are coming!’ shouted Anna with joy.
Manoj gave Anna an orange playmat to sit on. Linda brought three you looking out of the window?’
‘Now we can cut the cake,’ said Anna’s mother. ‘But hey, Anna, why is Mother! There are six plates, six cups, and six spoons on the table. But there are only five of my friends here. I am waiting for the sixth person, said Anna,
‘Oh, Anna! You are a silly, little girl. The sixth person is you-the birthday girl said Mother laughing.
Everybody laughed. Anna had forgotten to count herself!
Anna cut the pink cake which had blue and green roses. She offered it to all her friends. It was a wonderful fifth birthday indeed!
